Frank Fickett
1921-2009
Scouting in Central Texas has lost a true friend. Mr. Frank Fickett passed away October 31, 2009. He and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Mr. Fickett lived an incredible life of service, leadership, family and philanthropy. Remembering the Scout Oath's call to "do my duty to God and my country", he enlisted in the U.S. Army after his high school graduation – later serving as an officer. After a successful real estate business in California, Frank came to Burnet in the late 80's. He served his new home by helping lead development in Burnet and Marble Falls, and holding office as a Burnet City Councilman. His generosity would spread to support of Seton Hospital, Hill Country Community Foundation, 33rd Judicial District Victim/Witness Center, Scottish Rite Foundation, and other various charitable organizations.
His experience as a Scout growing up in Connecticut convinced him of the importance of the Scouting program for young people. Frank's leadership and generosity have benefited our council greatly, from Austin to the Hill Country. He served on our council's Executive Board and supported the Wolf Mountain Scout Ranch in Llano. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award in 2006 for outstanding service to Scouting at the council level. His name will grace the front of our council's new Frank Fickett Scout Training and Education Center in North Austin, a much-needed training facility that will embody Frank's legacy of supporting Scouting and fostering leadership development.
