Bastrop State Park has scheduled four volunteer days for the winter to work on erosion control.
The projects involve spreading mulch along Houston toad pond edges and installing straw logs/wattles on hillsides. This work is considered easy to moderate and may involve bending, carrying buckets of mulch and walking long distances. These projects are appropriate for all ages and groups.
Each workday runs from 9am-3pm. The dates are:
December 10January 14January 28February 11 State parks officials require reservations. Register with Katie Raney at 512-718-0211 or by email at Katie.Raney@tpwd.state.tx.us. Provide your name and the number of people in your group. You must register by 5pm on the Friday before the event to be allowed to volunteer.
Volunteer should wear close-toed shoes, long pants and long-sleeved shirts. They should also bring work gloves. All other equipment, including hardhats, will be provided.
