Camp Details

  • 335 acres
  • 17 campsites
  • 10 campsites have 12’ x 21’ pavilions with tables
  • 3 remote wilderness campsites
  • Medical Lodge for council events
  • 6 latrines and two central shower facilities with power
  • Drinking water is available at campsites
  • 2 private ponds: a 6-acre pond and a smaller pond
  • Home of our summer, spring break, and winter National Youth Leadership Training courses
  • 7 hiking trails; 3 combine to form a 4-mile loop (trail map)
  • Texas History Trail is in nearby Gonzales

  • Lakeside (Elgin) Pavilion $50/weekend
  • Learning Center Pavilion $50/weekend
  • Hank Deschner Pavilion $100/weekend

NOTE: effective September 1, 2023, every adult present on overnight activities must be registered as an adult member of Scouting. This means submitting an adult application and registration fee, undergoing a criminal background check and volunteer screening database check, and completing Youth Protection training just like all adult leaders.

Weekend Camping Information

General Information

  • Campsites are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Large program pavilions can only be used if reservation fees have been paid in advance
  • No fee for small campsite 12’ x 21’ pavilions
  • All units must satisfy BSA two deep leadership standards
  • All program area fees must be paid in advance to the Capitol Area Council office

Capitol Area Council units are required to pay $3 per youth/adult to use our council camping properties for regular weekend camping or day events. Out of council units have to pay $6 per camper (youth or adult). These fees are used to offset camp cleaning supplies/services and operating expenses.
