How Should Our Unit Meet?
March 1, 2021
Units should conduct safe, small-scale meetings or outdoor activities in person, after reviewing these specific preventative guidelines:
- your unit is able to meet all the CDC’s Covid-19 prevention guidelines
- your unit is able to meet all of the state’s minimum standard health protocols for youth clubs
- your unit has consulted with and gained approval from your chartered organization
Additional guidance regarding outdoor activity:
- The CDC advises that outdoor group activities are safer than indoor group activities, with some common sense considerations related to distancing, mask wearing, and sharing equipment. This overview of outdoor youth sports has advice that parallels thoughts about conducting outdoor Scouting activities.
- The Texas Medical Association’s Covid-19 Task Force has rated seasonal activities by the likelihood they will contribute to Covid-19 transmission. While distancing and mask wearing is a given, they note that activities that are outdoors are much safer than gatherings indoors.
- Scientists have learned a lot about how the virus spreads since the summer of 2020. Here’s a review of their findings to this point, which again give preference to doing things outdoors where there’s lots of space and fresh air.
