Hour of Code

Learn the basics of coding in just a few hours and start building your own mobile app! The Hour of Code program combines the awesome computer lab facilities at the Austin Community College Highland Campus with professional mentors from leading tech companies in our area. Together, you’ll work through curriculum developed by Code.org to begin using the basic ideas behind app development.

Note: Scouts will need to bring a completed BSA medical form (part A and B) and copy of the certificate proving they have completed the Cyber Chip program.

Why attend this event?

Tomorrow’s leaders must understand the logic and processes used to program computers and other smart devices. Even if someone will not become a programmer, the majority of future careers will involved digital skills in some parts of the job.

What will Scouts do at this event?

Game-based learning introduces Scouts and Explorers to the basic building blocks of coding. Then, youth are challenged to think of an idea for an app that helps solve a sustainability problem.

Where is the event held?

The “ACCelerator” computer lab at the Austin Community College Highland Campus, 6101 Highland Campus Drive, Austin, 78752.
