Hour of Code
NOTE: the 2020 Hour of Code will be a virtual event through Zoom
Learn the basics of coding in just a few hours and start building your own mobile app! The Hour of Code program matches youth with professional mentors from leading tech companies in our area. Together, you’ll work through curriculum developed by Code.org to begin using the basic ideas behind app development.

Why attend this event?
Tomorrow’s leaders must understand the logic and processes used to program computers and other smart devices. Even if someone will not become a programmer, the majority of future careers will involved digital skills in some parts of the job.
What will Scouts do at this event?
Game-based learning introduces Scouts and Explorers to the basic building blocks of coding. Then, youth are challenged to think of an idea for an app that helps solve a sustainability problem.
Where is the event held?
NOTE: the 2020 event is being held virtually via Zoom.
The “ACCelerator” computer lab at the Austin Community College Highland Campus, 6101 Highland Campus Drive, Austin, 78752 (note: the 2020 event will be held virtually).
I work in technology. Can my company help with this event?
Absolutely! Scouting would love to partner with your company to provide mentors experienced in best practices who can work with our Scouts. Please contact our Director of Corporate Engagement.
