Merit Badge Classes at The Microsoft Store

The Microsoft Store at The Domain shopping center in North Austin offers one-day classes for members of Scouts BSA Troops to earn Moviemaking, Game Design, or Robotics Merit Badges. Game Design and Robotics may be used as merit badges to help earn the Scouts BSA-level Supernova Award (part of an awards program designed to excite and expand a sense of wonder in Scouts; learn more about the Supernova Award here).

  • All classes offered at The Microsoft Store at The Domain shopping center.
  • All merit badge classes are taught by Microsoft Store employees who are registered BSA Merit Badge Counselors.
  • Each class is limited to 10 Scouts; there will be a «wait list» of up to 5 Scouts for each class.
  • Merit Badge classes are three hours long.
  • Those showing up late to class may not be able to complete all requirements covered.
  • This is a free educational service. The Microsoft Store is not responsible for Scouts’ safety or behavior.

How do Scouts sign up?

Registration for these classes are offered every few months. The Store typically does not offer classes during the summer as it hosts its own day camps during that time. Please do not call the store asking them to register your Scout; the store will refer you to us.

  • All classes are free but require online registration (click links on this page).
  • If you are one of the first 10 Scouts to register, you are guaranteed to be in the class.
  • If you are one of the next 5 Scouts to register, you are on the «wait list».
  • You will receive an email confirmation whether you are in the class or on the wait list.
  • If you are on the wait list, PLEASE DO NOT show up to the class «just in case someone doesn’t show up.» A Scout is Courteous.
  • If one of the first 10 Scouts drops out of the class and a spot opens up, people on the wait list will receive an email telling them they are now in the class (wait list is in order of date/time you tried to register).

«To do» list before/after class

Scouts

  • Get «blue card» approval from your Scoutmaster prior to attending a merit badge class (what is a «blue card» and why do Scouts need to do this?).
  • Review the merit badge book/pamphlet/digital pamphlet for the class before you attend so you will be able to make the most of your time in class.
  • DO NOT leave class without having your instructor sign off on the requirements you completed on your blue card.
  • Neither The Microsoft Store nor our council office will keep a record of your blue card and/or which requirements you completed in class. It is your responsibility to keep track of this.
  • It is your responsibility to turn in your signed blue card to your Scoutmaster/unit leader as proof you completed the merit badge.

Parents

  • A parent, guardian or adult leader must stay on site for the duration of the workshop and be available to assist if any disciplinary action is needed.
