Unit Bank Accounts
Scouting units chartered by our council (Capitol Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, in Austin/Central Texas) need an official letter to create a new bank account using our council’s tax ID number (EIN).
Once we have the letter, where should we go to create a unit account?
A+ Federal Credit Union has partnered with our council since 2010 and provided program and financial support for Scouting here in Central Texas. Thrifty Scouting units can earn an extra $50 and new account fee waivers to get started by taking advantage of A+FCU’s special unit account offer (they even offer similar incentives for Scouting families). The credit union has several locations across Bastrop, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties.
Click the orange button below to learn more about A+FCU and the unit account offer:
Note: there is no requirement to use A+FCU for your unit account.
How do we get a letter to open a unit account?
Please review the unit signer requirements and use the “Unit Bank Account Request Form” below to request unit documentation. Allow up to three (3) business days for processing.
Unit signer requirements:
- Two (2) signers minimum
- Units may request up to five (5) signers
- Committee Chair must be one of the signers
- All signers must be registered adult members in the unit
- No signers may be related, whether by blood or marriage
- No signers may be in the same household
- No employee of the Capitol Area Council may be on the unit bank account
