Thought-Provoking and Fun
STEM Scouts helps girls and boys learn about science, technology, engineering and math through creative, hands-on activities, field trips and interaction with STEM professionals. STEM Scouts offers a Scouting experience without the traditional emphasis on the outdoors. While the program focuses on future careers in STEM, it is ultimately designed to be challenging, thought-provoking and, most importantly, fun.
For kids in Kindergarten through Grade 8.
STEM Scouts re-imagines creative ways to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through fun, hands-on, practical applications. STEM Scouts have the opportunity to interact with professionals in weekly lab sessions and monthly field trips that enable them to discover new things in a thought-provoking and exciting way. Local STEM Scout groups – called Labs – may be boy-only, girl-only, or co-ed.
STEM Scouts’ learning modules are designed and vetted by STEM educators and professionals to be fun and age-appropriate. Hands-on activities help students learn the academic concepts behind the experiments. Elementary-age STEM Scouts have the opportunity to earn participation awards for their weekly activities.
Cub Scouts’ parents, guardians, and families are vital to the success of each local lab – as there are no paid leaders; everyone volunteers in some way.Adult volunteer leaders are responsible for planning each STEM Scouts Lab’s yearly calendar. It’s not an academic program, but STEM Scouts has helped boys and girls better understand what they’re learning in school. And while being a STEM Scout won’t necessarily convince your son or daughter to become a scientist or engineer, it will encourage them to have fun with STEM and be more confident in STEM subjects as they advance in grade level.
