Do you know what kids would do every day in the 1800s?
Do you know what they had to learn?
Take a step back in time to Texas in the mid 1800s at our Days of Discovery Summer Day Camp hosted at Pioneer Farms in northeast Austin. Learn about the skills used in days gone past, such as metal shaping, quilting, candle making, gardening, archery, animal care and much more. Have you sent messages to friends using only a telegraph? At Days of Discovery, you will do all this, and more.
Days of Discovery Summer Day Camp is a week-long day camp. The camp starts everyday Monday-Friday at 9:00am. Camp ends at 3:30pm Monday – Thursday. On Friday, from 3:30-4:00pm, we will have a short closing campfire ceremony for parents and campers.
Parents can bring campers as early as 8:45am and will need to walk the camper to the check in table. Once the camper is checked in with camp staff, parents of are free to leave or can stay if they wish*. Parents need to pick campers up by 3:45pm.
*Youth with rank Lion or Tiger (youth aged raising Kindergarten or First Grade) must have a parent partner attend the camp for the week with them. Please see the Guide to Safe Scouting and Age Appropriate Guidelines for Scouting for more information.
What will campers (Scout and non-Scout) learn?
All youth will visit the following stations:
Games (example activity – learn old time games like Wheelbarrow Races and Jacks)
Art (Example activity – make natural dyes for yard and create a keepsake quilt)
Conservation (Example activity – learn important and dangerous plants in the Austin area)
Pioneer Tech (Example activity – make your own candle using beewax and local add-ins)
Shooting Sports – (Example activity – learn to shoot archery)
Den Time – (Example Activity – create or learn a Scouting Skit for the campfire)
9:00am-9:25am – Opening 9:30am-10:20am – Class Session 1 10:20am-11:10am – Class Session 2 11:10am-12:00pm – Class Session 3 12:00pm-12:45pm – Lunch 12:45pm-1:15pm – Den Time 1:15pm-2:05pm – Class Session 4 2:05pm-2:55pm – Class Session 5 2:55pm-3:05pm – Clean up 3:05pm-3:30pm – Closing/Campfire
Friday
9:00am-9:25am – Opening 9:30-12:50 Pioneer Farms tour and activities 12:50pm-1:25pm – Lunch 1:30pm-3:00pm – Water Games time 3:00pm-3:30pm – Clean up and prepare for Campfire 3:30pm-4:00pm – Family Campfire Program – Open for all family members
Who can come to the camp?
The Days of Discovery Camp is open to all youth entering kindergarten to fifth grade. Campers do not need to be members of the Boy Scouts of America to attend the camp. Parents are welcome to come with their camper, but are not required to come to the camp*.

How much does the camp cost?
Camp cost $300 per week per participant. Our camp is fully staffed and accredited. Parent volunteers are welcome but are not required*.

The camp fee includes a camp t-shirt, a cool towel in campers’ den color, samples for classes, finished belt loop awards (if a registered Cub Scout), and a one-day tour of Pioneer Farms.

What is expected of camper parents?
Drop off starting at 8:45am
