Youth Protection Training and Policies

TO REPORT A YOUTH PROTECTION ISSUE

The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing programs.

Changes in Youth Protection Training Required for Camps

CLICK HERE to see these requirements, and what's required of you in order to comply with these laws.

The state of Texas now requires all camp staff 14 years and older plus all Scouting adults 18 years and older to complete a classroom facilitated Youth Protection Training course in order to attend or staff licensed Summer Resident and Summer Day Camps in Texas. This comes after a state review found that the BSA online course does not cover all the required material.

To satisfy this state requirement, our council will offer classroom facilitated Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Youth Protection Training several times, including camp staff development sessions and on the first day of (most) affected camps.

There are no more classroom sessions offered at the Fickett Center. If you are a:

Parent/leader attending Webelos Extreme Adventure Camp - the training will be offered during the Webelos Extreme Parent Orientation on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 7pm-8:30pm at the Fickett Center (this is only for parents/leaders attending Webelos Extreme Adventure Camp).

Leader/parent attending Boy Scout Summer Camp with your troop - the training will be offered on the first day of your troop's week of camp at Lost Pines.

Staff member 14 years or older working Boy Scout Summer Camp - the training will be offered during staff development week at Lost Pines.

Staff member 14 years or older working National Youth Leadership Training - the training will be offered during staff development at Camp Green Dickson.
