Big smiles build bigger futures
Scouting provides programs that build character, encourage mental and physical fitness, and teach the importance of cooperation, citizenship, and responsibility, and working as a team.
Whether it’s an outdoor adventure or learning about careers through hands-on experiences, Scouting helps you spend quality time with family, friends, and other caring adults while building self-confidence and living according to the Scout Oath and Law.
Capitol Area Council Programs
Cub Scouts (grades K-5)
For boys AND girls! Cub Scouts lets kids have fun while starting to teach lessons about helping others and doing your best. You can learn how to hit a bullseye on the archery range, build a model race car from a block of wood, or plan your own fun outdoor or indoor adventure. No matter what you do in Cub Scouting, the most important thing is doing it together.
Scouts BSA (grades 6-12)
For boys AND girls! Scouts go camping, hiking, and boating, explore their interests through more than 130 Merit Badges, and learn how to lead others while working toward Scouts BSA’s highest rank: Eagle. Scouts will imagine, plan, and carry out their own service projects, bringing to life the values of being Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, and Kind. Whether it’s a fun outdoor trip or a service project close to home, Scouts often learn the greatest lessons when something doesn’t go as planned – and figure out how to “get the job done” anyway.
Venturing (co-ed, ages 14-20)
All teens have one - a moment that opens their eyes to a world that’s bigger than they ever imagined. It might happen while paddling a quiet lake, bonding with new friends around a beach bonfire, or rising to the challenge of leading an exhausted crew to the edges of adventure. Venturing gives young men and women access to a range of programs and empowers them to create their own experiences. It brings Scouting values to life through both high adventure outdoor activities and challenging real-world projects.
Exploring (co-ed, ages 14-20)
Want to know what a career is really like? You can learn from the people doing the job right now! Exploring partners with companies, agencies, and organizations to give young men and women a look “behind the scenes.” Explorers begin building a professional network of people who either do the hiring, or know those who do.
Sea Scouts (co-ed, ages 14-20)
Whether it’s a weekend outing or a week-long cruise, Sea Scouting provides the opportunity to make lifelong memories out on the water. Sea Scouts will learn to lead others and give back while serving the community, nation, and fellow Scouts because service is a core principle of Sea Scouting. Whether you just want to have fun on the water or learn about a potential maritime career, Sea Scouting provides the opportunity for adventure.
