Tools for Friends of Scouting campaigns

Thank you for serving in a leadership role with our Friends of Scouting (FOS) campaign. No matter the job, you are playing an important part in ensuring the health and success of the Scouting program across all 15 counties across our council.

The following sections contain resources to help you meet your goal. See something missing? Please use the contact form at the bottom of this page to let us know.


Key Dates for the 2021 FOS campaign

January

  • Have Family FOS Chair recruited by January 29

February

  • Have all Family Unit Presentations Scheduled by February 5
  • Have Family FOS presenters attend Family FOS Orientation on February 9

March-April

  • Conduct Family Presentations
  • Schedule a Call-A-Thon for unworked donors from each Unit Presentation held in March by April 2

May

  • Continue conducting Family Presentations
  • Schedule a Call-A-Thon for unworked donors from each Unit Presentation held in April by May 7

June-July

  • Continue conducting Family Presentations
  • Schedule a Call-A-Thon for unworked donors from each Unit Presentation held from May-June by July 9

August

  • Complete Friends of Scouting Campaign by exceeding District Family FOS goal by August 13

Checklist for conducting online FOS presentations

Beginning of Family FOS Campaign

  • District Executive updates all donors in campaign with a unit number.
  • Completed updates are shared with Field Director and Director of Development. Finance Secretary will update unit assignments in Blackbaud.

10 Days Prior to FFOS Presentation

  • District Executive sends email merger to all previous donors with previous donation history and link to FFOS landing page.
  • District Executive sends unit list to FFOS presenter which will include previous FOS donations and contact information.

7 Days Prior to FFOS Presentation

4 Days Prior to FFOS Presentation

2 Days Prior to FFOS Presentation

1 Day Prior to FFOS Presentation

  • If a volunteer presenter needs a box with recognition items to present to the families, give the box to the FFOS presenter. Reiterate the logistics of the presentation and follow up.

Day of Presentation

  • Hold presentation

After Presentation

  • Tally total $ raised and be prepared to report in staff meeting in Steps to Success and that the New Money/Total Money is accurate.
  • Update running totals, District MCL, fill out an audit sheet, and turn in cards to Fundraising Secretary.
  • District Executive and FFOS presenter need to follow up with donors no more than 48 hours after the presentation.

Explainer or “warm up” video

This video is hosted on our council’s YouTube account. To use this video, either use the YouTube link in an email/message or embed the video on your unit/district website. If you’d like a copy of the video to use in original social media posts or to show in an environment where you don’t have internet access, download the video using any one of a number of free tools available online. One we’ve used is 4K Video Downloader.
