Pack overnight camping

Taking your Cub Scout Pack on a weekend camp out is one of the best ways for your Scouts to have fun and your families to start learning Scouting’s outdoor program. But before you start making your grocery shopping list or packing your gear, there are a few things you need to do first:

 

Adult overnight requirements

 

Every adult staying overnight need to be registered as an adult member of Scouting. BUT, Cub Scout parents/guardians staying overnight with their own child do not have to be registered.

BALOO training requirement

 

You must have at least one registered adult member trained in BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) attend the camp out.

Hazardous Weather training requirement

 

You must have at least one registered adult member take BSA’s Hazardous Weather training.

Unit Camping Permit application

 

Cub Scout camping is limited to our council’s designated locations with appropriate facilities. These include council-owned or managed facilities; council-approved developed sites such as national parks, state, county, and regional parks; or council-approved privately owned campgrounds.

We are always looking for new camping opportunities for our Cub Scout Packs. If your site is not listed on the approved camping location list, your unit leadership must submit a Cub Scout Unit Camping Permit application form (see bottom of page) at least 90 days before the date of the camping trip. This form will include the location of your campsite, which must be approved by our council before your camp out (you can’t approve your own location). This and other information in this form helps us make sure your trip will be covered by BSA insurance.

Reserve Camp Tom Wooten, Smilin V campsites

 

Camping at our council’s Smilin V Scout Ranch or Camp Tom Wooten? In addition to the Cub Scout Unit Camping Permit application form, you need to reserve your campsite(s) using our camp reservation system.

 

What you need to fill and submit a Cub Scout Unit Camping Permit application form

You can’t save the form and come back to it later, so it’s a good idea to gather all of the necessary information before you start. You’ll need to know:

  • Name and contact information of your pack’s on-site contact (if different from the person filling out the application)
  • Name and physical address of your desired camping location
  • Name and contact information of owner of desired camping location (if private property)
  • Name(s) of BALOO-trained adult(s) planning and attending the overnight
  • Name(s) of Hazardous Weather-trained adult(s) attending the overnight

 

Cub Scout Unit Camping Permit application

Must be submitted at least 90 days before your pack's overnight camp out. Completing this form does not mean your event is approved; you must receive email confirmation.
