Rifle and Shotgun Instructor Training Courses
Basic Instructor Course (BIT)
This 6 hour Basic Instructor Training (BIT) is designed to develop Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses. BIT is a prerequisite for all instructor level courses (rifle, shotgun or pistol instructor). BIT is normally offered in conjunction with the rifle or shotgun instructor courses, but is not offered prior to other instructor courses. If you wish to take an upcoming pistol instructor course and are not already an instructor, you must take this course.
Note: the Basic Instructor Course is often offered in tandem with the Rifle Instructor course.
Rifle Instructor Training Course
This 25 hour course completes all requirements to become an NRA Rifle Instructor. The training includes both classroom and range time. Students will complete a basic instructor training, basics of rifle shooting and rifle instructor training. Students must complete all sections to become certified.
NOTE: This course is not for Cub Scout leaders who want to be certified as Cub BB gun range masters. See instead the BB Range Master course.
The next available rifle instructor course is tentatively in August, 2022.
Shotgun Instructor Training Course
This course completes all requirements to become an National Rifle Association Shotgun Instructor. The training takes place over multiple weekends and includes both classroom and range time. The training is over two weekends. It includes the basics of shotgun shooting and the shotgun instructor training. The second weekend is at the range demonstrating shooting proficiency. Both weekends must be completed to be certified.
